At the completion of this unit, you will be able to:
Explain the number of hours of recommended for in-service training for swim instructors.
Describe what in-service training should consist of for swim instructors.
Key Points:
It is recommended that swim instructors be involved in 1-2 hours of in-service training per month directed specifically at swim lessons.
This can be accomplished through staff meetings, skills trainings, emergency action plan training, or off-site work.
Examples of in-service training ideas:
Exchange of game ideas.
Discussing problems in classes and aiding in solutions.
Exchanging ideas on different ways to teach skills effectively.
Discussion of any concerns raised by others about the swim program.
Records of the in-service trainings should be kept on site and need to include who attended, the date, and what was covered.
Your in-service schedule will be determined by the Program Coordinator.
